DISCLAIMERS FIRST (description further down) This is very much an "Alpha" version, meaning in this case that: 1) it is generally extremely rough around the edges, some icons/images/text may be ugly or placeholders 2) it may not work well, properly, or at all, on your particular device, or Android version (I'm currently only able to directly test it on a limited number of devices/versions) 3) it is missing a variety of features that would make it more useful than it currently is, but which are planned to be added (however it is useful in limited ways as is) 4) it may have some debugging features visible that don't make a lot of sense to anyone but the developer A limitation right now is that you can only enter your location by entering latitude and longitude. It's a very awkward interaction process. Not to mention you shouldn't expect this to be working fantastically anyway.
If you think it has potential, and would like to see it progress, then feel free to leave *positive* reviews here, so that other people can find it more easily and I can get more feedback from those people as well on what should be improved.
I will keep the description here as up-to-date as possible with any upsides as well as downsides of this version, so people can know what they're getting themselves into. I do believe it's a useful tool (I use it all the time, myself) and I hope it will serve others well, too. ---------------------------
And now on to the actual description:
--------------------------- This is a set of App Widgets (that can sit on your desktop/launcher screen) and show you the temperature and precipitation forecast, so you can make at-a-glance decisions about things like: 1) "Should I bring a sweater for tonight, even though it's warm out right now?" 2) "It's sunny now, but is there a chance of precipitation later in the day, so I should bring an umbrella just in case?" 3) It also has access to an animated radar map (a single tap away), to help you make even shorter-term decisions like: "Should I run to the subway *now* or does it look like this storm cloud will pass soon and I should wait?" Another handy though potentially not weather-related feature is that you can customize what should happen when you tap each of the corners or the middle of each widget. You can configure it to show the radar image, configure the widget, start up some other App you have installed, or open a particular URL in your browser. ------------
PERMISSIONS: For those who worry about the permissions the App requires: 1) Internet Access - Well, it needs to get updated weather information and radar images, so there's no getting around this. At the moment it doesn't use it for anything else, though it may start being able to send error logs back to the developer site for debugging and the like. I'll add information here about whatever it does. 2) SD Card / External Storage Access - Right now, depending on what version of Android you have, it's not possible to share log/debugging information directly from the internal device storage, so it needs to put it on the SD card in order to be able to email it back to the developer site, in case things go wrong. ==========================
