Cicero's Lexicon

Marcus Tullius Cicero was renowned as the greatest speaker in history. His presence in the public forums drew crowds from every echelon of Roman society. Scholars of the age would beseech him to teach them his skills, so he taught them a simple game - to guess a word when given only its definition. To instill a sense of competition among his young pupils, Cicero devised a scoring scheme, awarding beads and trinkets based on how quickly the students could guess the word. He found that some of his students would struggle, the appropriate word eluding their minds. To encourage these students, he would offer hints but would reduce his final reward.

Cicero met a cruel fate, but remained a wordsmith to the end. His words incited men to action. Unfortunately, in one case, the man incited was Marc Antony, and the action was Cicero's own execution. Though he is gone, he is not forgotten, and neither is his game. It lives on, passed down from generation to generation, and has found its way to you.
