गणेश चतुर्थी को भगवान गणेश की जयंती के रूप में मनाया जाता है। गणेश चतुर्थी पर, भगवान गणेश को ज्ञान, समृद्धि और सौभाग्य के देवता के रूप में पूजा जाता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि भगवान गणेश का जन्म भाद्रपद माह के शुक्ल पक्ष के दौरान हुआ था। वर्तमान में अंग्रेजी कैलेंडर में अगस्त या सितंबर के महीने में गणेश चतुर्थी का दिन आता है।

गणेश चतुर्थी का त्योहार, गणेशोत्सव, अनंत चतुर्दशी के 10 दिनों के बाद समाप्त होता है, जिसे गणेश विसर्जन दिवस के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। अनंत चतुर्दशी पर भक्त एक जुलूस निकाल कर भगवान गणेश की मूर्ति को जल में विसर्जित करते हैं।

गणेश चतुर्थी पूजन विधि-
इस दिन गणेश जी को विधिवत वस्त्र और उपनयन से सजा कर उचित आसन देकर विधिवत पूजन कर के स्थापित करते हैं। मध्यान्ह काल में पूरे विधि विधान स गणेश पूजन किया जाता है। इस दिन भक्त पूरे पांडाल को सजाते हैं। श्री गणेश जी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए उनको गीत और संगीत के माध्यम से भजन का सुंदर प्रस्तुतीकरण किया जाता है। मंत्रों के मधुर उच्चारण से पूरा माहौल भक्तिमय हो जाता है। यह उत्सव 10 दिन चलता है फिर अनंत चतुर्दशी के दिन भगवान गणेश जी की प्रतिमा का विसर्जन कर देते हैं।

विशेष सावधानी-
गणेश चतुर्थी पर चंद्र दर्शन कदापि न करें वरना कलंक मिल सकता है। इस पर्व पर चंद्र दर्शन करने से मिथ्या दोष लगता है। भगवान कृष्ण पर स्यमन्तक नामक बहुमूल्य मणि की चोरी का कलंक इस चंद्र दर्शन के कारण ही लगा था।

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on Shukla Chaturthi of the Hindu month of Bhadra (generally falls between August and September). This festival is celebrated by Hindus with a great enthusiasm. People bring idols of Lord Ganesh to their homes and do worship. The duration of this festival varies from 1 day to 11 days, depending on the place and tradition. On the last day of the festival the idols are taken out in a colorful and musical procession and immersed traditionally in water.

As per Hindu mythology Lord Ganesh is considered as "Vigana Harta" (one who removes obstacles) and "Buddhi Pradaayaka" (one who grants intelligence). This festival is very important for students, they worship Lord Ganesh to illumine their minds.
